The CO2 fractional laser delivers energy in a precise, fractionated grid pattern — meaning only a fraction of the skin's surface is treated in each pass, while surrounding untreated tissue is left intact to speed healing. Within each treated micro-column, the laser vaporizes damaged surface tissue and creates a controlled column of heat extending into the deeper dermis.
This controlled injury triggers a strong wound-healing response: the body rapidly produces new collagen and elastin to rebuild the treated columns, while the surrounding healthy tissue helps the skin recover faster than a fully ablative (non-fractionated) laser would allow.
